Akileine Cold Feet Warming Cream
The Akileine Cold Feet Warming Cream is a cream that is formulated to help with that sensation of cold feet. After applying this cream, there is often an instant feeling of warmth, giving some relief to the sensation of being cold.
What causes cold feet?
Cold feet can be due to any one of a number of factors:
- Firstly, some people have just naturally cold feet (and hands) with normal circulation. This is probably within the boundaries of normal (though at the extremes of normal) and is nothing to be concerned about (unless those with cold hands want to annoy you by touching!).
- Cold weather. In the colder weather your body reduces blood flow to the extremities, so they become colder. If the body does not respond well to the changes in the temperature, you could be at risk for chilblains.
- Poor circulation. This is a common cause of cold feet as less blood gets through to the feet; less blood means less warmth.
- Hypothyroidism. Lower levels of the thyroid hormone leads to decreased heat production and poorer circulation which can feel cold.
- Raynaud’s Phenomenon. This is a condition where blood vessels spasm in response to cold or stress with the fingers and toes turn white/blue, then a red colour as blood flow returns
- Anaemia. A lower red blood cell count will mean less oxygen and warmth delivered to tissues
- Anxiety or Stress. Stress triggers the “fight or flight” response and as part of this there is a constriction of the blood vessels in limbs, leading to a cool or cold sensation.
- Nerve issues. Nerves are responsible for sensing temperature and if they’re damaged, signals and sensation can get weird. This includes things like diabetic neuropathy, vitamin deficiencies (especially B12) and chronic alcohol use.
- Medications. Some drugs, like beta-blockers or certain chemotherapy agents can affect the circulation or affect nerve sensations.
If you have cold feet, then it may be due to any one of the above or a combination of the above.
What can be done to help cold feet?
- Move around regularly – movement and exercise will help, regardless of the cause.
- Wear thermal socks or slippers (we have cashmere wool socks for cold feet)
- Check with your doctor regarding the other underlying causes to have them ruled out.
